To make your stair selection and installation easy and convent they have been expertly designed to give 25mm in base connection adjustment, therefore not only will you be able to set your heights easier but an uneven surface will not cause you too much extra hassle.

If you’d like to buy our stair stringers, and already know what you need, you can order LevelMaster stairs through our online store.

Otherwise, more information is provided below to help you choose the right product for your needs.

LevelMaster supplies the only adjustable stair stringer base that has been properly engineered and designed. Therefore all stair stringers are manufactured to the requirements of the Australian Building code and to suit standard rise and going measurements.

The tread brackets are all fabricated and fitted in our factory to a standard spacing making the rise a compliant and fixed 175mm

  • rise: 175mm

  • going: 250mm.

Two types of stair stringers

Our stair stringers are available in two different types:

  • cast in

  • bolt down.

Make sure you choose the correct stair stringer for your needs based on how you plan to fix the base of the stringer (cased in concrete or bolted down) both types cost the same.

Timber treads

The recommended timber for treads is a hardwood as it is stronger and less flex / bounce is going to happen with a strong hardwood.  It also means that a 1200mm tread is achievable and a span of 1000mm between the stringers.

At Levelmaster we have Kwila hardwood treads available, the standard option we provide is 250mm deep with the face having a machined square edge finish which is the same as the top and bottom.  The back face of the treads is cut to make the treads 250mm deep but the edge finish can vary from square edge to  small radius depending upon the international mills supply ability and therefore out of our control.

Stair stringer treads: rise and going

Our stair stringers range from 1-17 treads (steps) and are made for standard ‘rise’ and ‘going’.

The rise is the vertical measurement taken from one step level to the next. Standard rise is 175mm.

The going is the horizontal measurement taken from the front of one step to the next. Standard going is 250mm

calculate the number of treads required by working out the vertical height

Stair calculator table

To work out the correct size stair stringer, you will need to know your height to deck. This can be found by measuring the vertical distance from the ground level to the height of the deck that you wish to connect.

Note: Also check that there will be enough room horizontally from the face of the deck to where the stringers will be fixed.

Once you have the height to deck measurement you can use the table below to find out which size stringer you need

How many step will I need? Explained

As explained above we have a rise of 175mm and a going of 250mm for all our stair stringers. So to calculate the number of treads (steps) you will need, we simply take the height to deck measurement and then divide this figure by 175 (rise height). We than take that final figure and subtract 1, as this final figure has given the total amount of rises and not total amount of treads.

Example:

A height of 2100 divided by 175 = 12  minus 1 = 11 treads required.
